Decarbonizing complex energy systems is hard;

Updraft Energy partners with organizations to develop and operationalize strategies that meet goals in a resilient and cost-effective manner. Our name comes from migratory birds that fly in V formations to expend less energy through updrafts in the air. Our processes are inspired by the innovative systems throughout our natural world.
Leadership Team
Grant Jones
Director
Grant is a founding member of Updraft Energy with expertise in energy systems and clean transportation.
Through his experience in the federal government at the Environmental Protection Agency, Grant helped lead program design efforts for billion-dollar funding opportunities. As Deputy Director for Sustainability at the White House Council on Environmental Quality, he implemented strategies for decarbonizing the US federal government’s electricity consumption. Grant has a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering focused on energy and sustainability from Boston University and a B.S. in Commerce from the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University.
Sam Cutler-Tucker
Director
Sam is a founding member of Updraft Energy with expertise in operations, quality control and product validation within the biotechnology sector.
Over the course of his career, Sam has led teams focused on scaling complex supply chain and validation processes into robust, data-driven systems. As Director of Operations at DNA Script, he managed the qualification and international logistics of their flagship product. His background in molecular biology and leadership in biotech operations give him a unique perspective on bridging science, sustainability, and business execution. He holds a B.S. in Molecular Biology from University of California, Santa Cruz.
